hi,

I am travelling to egypt on the 23rd Jan - 7th Feb. Does anyone now of any restrictions on camera usage. I have heard that cameras and recording equipment are banned from the valley of the kings and various other museums/sites.

Hi there, I did the Taste of Egypt trip last September. There are a couple of places like the Museum in Cairo and the Valley of the Kings and the Great Pyramid (if you chose to go inside) that you can't take cameras into but your guide will let you know in advance. Where that happens you can leave your camera on the bus (which always had the driver on) or pay to leave it with the museum before you go in. From memory most other places, temples etc you were fine to take cameras into. There were a couple of places like the Pyramids and the Luxor Temple where they didn't let me use my tripod - which was quite tricky in the dark, so lots of leaning on rocks to try and steady the camera! The other thing you have to watch for at some of the temples are local men trying to show you where to take a good shot, or even leaping into your shot at the last minute and asking for a tip. But there are definitely more places than not that you can take photos - I took well over a 1000 in a week! Have a great time...
