AOB Trails of Borneo Departing 11th August ~ Itinerary change thoughts?

Sat, 08/04/2012 - 14:24

Just interested in the thoughts of any others on this trip regarding the information we have just received on our change of itinerary? Not so much the itinerary change that bothers me but the supposed 'upgrade' in our accommodation at the Mulu NP. Check out the reviews of the Royal Mulu Resort on TripAdvisor to see what I am on about. Am really dubious about it. Have emailed my concerns to Exodus.... no reply yet. Still really excited about this trip. We will be on our honeymoon!!! Looking forward to meeting our fellow travellers...

We are also disappointed with the last minute change, and have emailed Exodus.  It seems strange that they didn't secure flights before confirming the trip.  Our concern was more that we now spend 4 nights in Kota Kinabalu - certainly not what we were hoping for from a 'Trails of Borneo' trip.  And now that you have pointed out the dubious accommodation at Royal Mulu...in fact the park HQ seems to get better comments!

We're also looking forward to meeting you and everyone else!

Hi everyone,

I've been in touch with Joanna Zubr at Exodus about this itinery change, and specifically the poor reviews the Royal Mulu has on TripAdvisor, and she sent me the following reassuring email:

"I understand your concerns having looked at Trip Advisor myself but I have spoke to our local operator about your concerns and about the renovations to make sure they will not impact your stay at the hotel.

There are renovations going on, but the hotel as assured us that they do not impact on clients staying at the hotel as the work stops before 5.30pm so that when people return from their days exploring the area they do not hear hammering. They have confirmed the pool is unavailable at the moment as the reviews stay but there would be little time to use it if it were open. At the moment the dining room has been moved to the ballroom ( I have attached a picture) as that part of the complex is being refurbished but as the photo shows they have gone to a lot of effort to make it as welcoming. We have also asked that the rooms for our groups are as far away from the construction as possible so it does not impact your stay".

Joanna also sent me some nice (hopefully recent!) photos of the hotel that look far better than those on TripAdvisor, so fingers crossed all will be well.

Looking forward to meeting everyone in only 3 days time!

Adam
