Leptis Magna

Due to the present situation and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) travel advisories, we have cancelled all our holidays to Libya for this season.

Leptis Magna is one of the most spectacular and unspoilt Roman ruins in the Mediterranean, wonderfully restored to some of its former glory. Originally Phoenician and a colony of Carthage, Leptis Magna grew as the port, which brought the riches of Sudan to the Roman Empire. The emperor Septimius Severus was born here, and he lavished many fine buildings on the town, rivalling Rome itself. The huge forum and basilica and the public baths date from this period.
