Holidays to Xingjiang with the Adventure Experts
Xingjiang is China's wild west, a huge area of desert and mountains dotted with fertile valleys and oases. Predominantly moslem, it it is home to many of China's Minority Peoples. The cultural diversity is best seen at the famous Sunday market in Kashgar, often described as the best market in the world. Different branches of the Silk Road traverse Xingjiang to the north and south of the infamous Takla Makan desert, whose name means "go in and you won't come out". Oases such as Turfan (Turpan), the second lowest place on earth, support their inhabitants with complex systems of underground irrigation. The mountains which surround Xingjiang are some of the most dramatic in Asia, including the Tien Shan, the Kun Lun, and in the far west, the Karakorams, reaching up to K2, the second-highest mountain in the world.

The city of Chengdu in Sichuan province near the epicentre of the recent earthquake is where we visit the world famous Panda research breeding centre. Through Plan International, Exodus is providing its clients the opportunity to raise funds to rebuild this shattered region. If you would like to donate, please visit our Just Giving page.
