PEAKS AND VALLEYS OF THE ATLAS

What a trip! Fantastic scenery, great bunch of people, good food, a terrific guide, helped by the ever cheerful muleteers and a cook who took great pride in the preparation and presentation of our meals.

I read reviews before we went saying that this isn't a holiday, more a travel experience.  I agree!  There are lots of early starts and long days but in order to complete the packed itinerary it is necessary.  Its a bit of a whirlwind but in many ways it is that that makes this trip so good.  A country of real contrasts and lovely people.

Gorillas & Masai Mara

GORILLAS & MASAI MARA

Africa did not dissappoint. Once we had endured the welcome at Nairobi airport at a burnt out terminal,  securtity with AK47's at the arrivals areas and the shopping centre seige in full swing, even lions chasing zebra through our tented camp site didn't dampen enthusiasm for the wealth of wildlife enjoyed. David Attenburgh would have relished many of the moments! Wilderbeast surging down the banks of the Mara River, a leopard with Zebra kill in a thorn tree, two lions in a tree and gorillas happily playing and eating in and around our group. This was truly one of life's great experiences.

Discover Ethiopia

DISCOVER ETHIOPIA

A real disappointment:  a slow-paced, badly organised and poorly designed trip.  Ethiopia's cultural charm just about broke through in the North.  But depressing hotels (bring insect repllant and bed bug powder) and a totally pointless trip to the South left us all desperate for this trip to be over.

LHASA TO KATHMANDU RIDE

The chaos of Kathmandu, the magnificent Potala Palace of Lhasa, an epic ride across the vast and inhospitable Tibetan Plateau, the tough climbs up the 5000m passes rewarded by panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, and arriving at the base of Everest.  It is almost close enough to touch.
