SPITSBERGEN IN DEPTH

Extreme Polar Regions seem to have been a buried desire of mine for most of my life - I guess since starting with geography lessons at the age of 10 (a very long time ago). Ice, bears, penguins, snowy wilderness have always attracted me. Whenever I saw a picture or documentary of any of the above there was a desire to actually EXPERIENCE the reality of them in person. The opportunity to do so came in the guise of a personal tragedy when my husband died suddenly and prematurely in a motor cycle accident before we could realise the dream of a trip to Antarctica - although we had begun to talk of the possibility of one day going. As I pieced my "new life" together I chatted to a few friends who had similar desires to go so in 2011 we put a party together and went to Antarctica in February 2011 where we met with Paul Goldstein. On return to South Africa I immediately started to look at the possibility of going on one of Paul's photographic expeditions to "do the other end" and go to Spitzbergen to see the bears - even though I am NO photographer. So in June 2012 I set off with 2 fellow travellers to accomplish the mission (without a camera and only armed with an ipad  - much to Paul's horror and disdain - to capture the images).

MONT BLANC HIGHLIGHTS

Excellent week. Oliver was a fantastic guide and looked after the whole group professionally and expertly. Elaine provided fabulous food the whole week and although I don't usually eat cake - her cakes are so delicious I had one everyday.

DISCOVER BURMA

A wonderful country which I have wanted to visit for some time. Myanmar certainly lived up to my expectations and exceeded them in many ways. The Exodus trip was very varied and our guide, Gabriel, was excellent.

TRINS: THE AUSTRIAN TYROL

The alpine scenery is absolutely beautiful.  It was an especially good time to visit at the beginning of July because of all the flowers.  After conquering a peak walking back down beside the alpine meadows was a delight.

KENYA & TANZANIA ADVENTURE

Great trip, quite a lot of time spent driving from place to place but that's mostly unavoidable. Another day in the Serengeti would have been good. My companions were a great bunch which always helps.

KILIMANJARO, SERENGETI & ZANZIBAR

This was the most amazing trip!  Everything was taken care of from beginning to end - we never had to worry about anything!  I can't say enough good things about our guide, the porters on Kilimanjaro, our safari driver - they made our trip the enjoyable experience that it was.
