Self-Guided Cycling in the Loire Valley

CYCLING IN THE LOIRE VALLEY

3
The Loire Valley was beautiful, cycling was wounderful and I would recomend althoug I feel the holiday was over priced for what we actully had. One week cost as much as two weeks 5 star in mexico!!!!! plus we had to find our own way to the Loire. The maps provided were up to date but if you just followed the Exodus details they were really poor.

Mountains & Villages of Corsica

CORSICAN MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES

We stayed in a friendly family run guest house overlooking the village and mountains.  The mornings and evenings were filled with the heady perfume of lime blossom.  Immediate relaxation!  The mountain scenery was stunning and the people warm and friendly, appreciating us trying to speak French or Italian with them! Some days involved quite a bit of country lane walking or had periods of hanging around waiting for the public bus to turn up at the end of the day, which I found frustrating as I wanted to be walking in the mountains that surrounded us.  However the last 2 days of walking were in the mountains.

Tour du Mont Blanc Camping Trek

MONT BLANC CIRCUIT

4
The scenery is spectacular throughout much of this hike, provided that the weather permits good visibility. At no point did I ever feel like I was in the "wilderness," but there were plenty of hot chocolate, cake, and pie stops to compensate for that. It was an enjoyable group holiday.

MONT BLANC HIGHLIGHTS

A fabulous introduction to walking in the Alps. Oliver choreographed a terrific week which took us into stunning scenery and must take full credit (ably abetted by Elaine and Dylan) for sensitively taking care of the whole group's needs. Thanks for a great holiday.

SPITSBERGEN IN DEPTH

5
Extreme Polar Regions seem to have been a buried desire of mine for most of my life - I guess since starting with geography lessons at the age of 10 (a very long time ago). Ice, bears, penguins, snowy wilderness have always attracted me. Whenever I saw a picture or documentary of any of the above there was a desire to actually EXPERIENCE the reality of them in person. The opportunity to do so came in the guise of a personal tragedy when my husband died suddenly and prematurely in a motor cycle accident before we could realise the dream of a trip to Antarctica - although we had begun to talk of the possibility of one day going. As I pieced my "new life" together I chatted to a few friends who had similar desires to go so in 2011 we put a party together and went to Antarctica in February 2011 where we met with Paul Goldstein. On return to South Africa I immediately started to look at the possibility of going on one of Paul's photographic expeditions to "do the other end" and go to Spitzbergen to see the bears - even though I am NO photographer. So in June 2012 I set off with 2 fellow travellers to accomplish the mission (without a camera and only armed with an ipad  - much to Paul's horror and disdain - to capture the images).
