ESSENTIAL PERU

I had wanted to visit Peru for so long.  It was my first trip to South America and for me the country of Peru was my first choice!  My only reservation was that there would be so much cloud forest but was I proved wrong!  The sun shone every day and it was 10 degrees hotter than I expected!  The trip exceeded expectations in every way.  Peru is a wonderfully diverse country, not only with its geographical features, but with its people and resources that are innumerable -there is nothing the Peruvians can't produce!

DELHI TO KATHMANDU

This was the most different holiday I have ever been on - North India was a total assault on the senses and quite intense at times and challenging to my western sensibilities. Overall I totally loved it although after a week in North India I was glad to get to Nepal which is less hectic.

PERU EXPLORER

The Peru Explorer package was very well organised and led, gave us a pretty comprehensive picture of Southern Peru and was good value for money.   Given the distances involved and the sheer scale of the programme, it inevitably involved a great deal of coach travel - it certainly wasn't a restful holiday!  We were lucky in that our group numbered only nine and we travelled in a coach which catered for more than twice as many people. The Inca trail was wonderful and, although we were by far (a good dozen years) the oldest people in the group, we managed the walking without much discomfort. And  we were tremendously well looked after by the ample contingent of porters, cooks and bottle-washers.

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - RONGAI ROUTE

This was the year when I wanted to do something exceptional (turning 40 makes you evaluate things somewhat!). Having listened to a colleague who had completed the Kilimanjaro challenge previously, the idea took seed and I eventually took the plunge and booked with Exodus. Alongside preparing myself for the physical challenge, Exodus were great at preparing me with tips on practical planning and ensuring everything was well organised. We were given ample opportunity to get to know the rest of the group of walkers and by the time the trekking commenced, we had forged friendships which will continue well beyond the holiday. The guides and porters who supported us throughout our trek were outstanding, both in help and friendliness. I am in awe of their positive attitude and physical stamina! The climb was tough, both physically and mentally but through the support of guides, portering staff and our new-found friendships, I was thrilled to reach the summit and be rewarded with  a huge sense of achievement. The phrase 'on top of the world' has taken on a whole new meaning to me.I will never forget this trip; challenging, rewarding and motivational. I would urge anyone to do it!

I really enjoyed the Sahara Trek, but then it ticked a lot of boxes for me. Ultimately, if your in to that kind of thing its an amazing trip. It really feels like your cut off from the world and in the middle of no where....completely isolated and trail blazing
