PEAKS AND VALLEYS OF THE ATLAS

A tough trek, but spectacular rugged scenery.  Don't underestimate how challenging this trip is, as I thought I was a fairly strong walker, but really struggled.  I thought I would be able to manage all three peaks, but only managed to climb Mount Toubkal.  Of a group of 16, 13 made it up Toubkal (after 7 hour walk), 11 to Jebel Adrar n'Dern (after an 11 hour walk), and only 4 to Jebel Ouanakrim (after 9 hour walk).  However, I would definately recommend this trip over a trip to purely Mount Toubkal, as it was lovely to walk through the villages and get a feel for Berber life, and to camp at the lake (Lac d'Ifni).  A trip to climb only Mount Toubkal would be fairly dull, as it's just a long boring walk up to base camp, then 7 hour climb up and down Toubkal, and then back down the same long boring path to the village.  Toubkal base camp is also busy and dirty so you don't want to spend too long there either.

Exodus Response

We have recently been made aware of the problems on this particular tour regarding tent equipment and the back-marker. Please be assured that we are treating these matters with utmost importance and I am confident all matters will be resolved before the new Toubkal season starts in 2013.

Our local partner confirmed that the new tents we ordered unfortunately did not arrive in Morocco in time for our September departures. Once we were made aware, Exodus tried to find alternatives locally that we could hire yet we were unable to replace those few tents with broken zips etc with better quality equipment. We are confident that our new and more durable tents will be used in 2013.

Exodus always ensures there is a back-marker on our Toubkal tours and I am currently in discussion with our local partner to understand why they were not provided on this particular tour. I have passed on the vital feedback to Hassan and he will be going through extra training at the end of this season to ensure this situation does not reoccur on future trips.

Thank you for your valued comments and please be assured that we are looking into alternative arrangements for next year.

THE HIGH INCA TRAIL

I spent much of my two weeks in Peru slapping myself to make sure I was awake and that it wasn’t all just a dream. High in the Andes I loved the absolutely breathtaking scenery, the incredible ruins of the ancient Inca settlements, the sincere warmth and friendliness of the Peruvian people, the diversity of the food, the beautiful old Spanish colonial buildings in Cusco, the kick of the Pisco in the loveliest little bars in the world, the depth of the history and religion, the vibrant music, the colours of the people in traditional dress and the absolutely breathtaking scenery again because it deserves an extra mention. This was a fantastic trip that I just couldn’t fault at all.

WALKING ON THE GREEK ISLANDS

Wonderful hoilday, great group and the right balance between sightseeing, walking and time for ourselves.  Note, however, that you do not see Athens on this trip - you need to add this on yourself at the beginning or end of the holiday.

CYCLING IN GREECE

Great cycling with wonderful views - a few hills on the first couple of days but nothing which I found to be too bad or different from any other Moderate cycle trip which I have been on with Exodus.Excellent food - all good but the meal at the hotel near Myceanea was a particulr highlight as was the dinner on the last night in the shadow of the Acropolis. A walk round Athens at night before & after dinner was also great.

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

This was our second visit to the Due Torri ( we did the walking holiday last time) the food and the friendly warm welcome were excellent as before. The hotel in really well placed to explore the area and having a local guide was brilliant showing us aspects of Naples and the area we would not have found ourselves. When the boats to Capri were cancelled on our last day the Guide organised a really good trip to Sorrento taking in some fantastic coastal scenery and superb ice creams.
