Kilimanjaro: Rongai Route & Safari

Kilimanjaro rongai route and safari

5
Excellent from start to finish. We had a wonderful welcome everywhere we went, our team of guides and porters on the mountain were simply the best, helping us to conquer the mighty Kilimanjaro that is no easy feat. The transition to safari was perfect and what beautiful places have been chosen to relax in after a long day spotting animals. The food on the mountain was nothing short of genius, i dont know how they created such things at high altitude, and it was equally good on safari.

Up the Rongai!

This was a superbly planned and executed trip to the roof of Africa that left no stone unturned. The African Walking Company and Karibu Safaris were both excellent. The trek started in the foothills at a surprisingly slow pace but it soon becomes obvious that this is deliberately so your body has adequate time to acclimatise to the gradually increasing altitude. It also gives plenty of time to take in the beautiful African scenery and sounds. The Rongai route is somewhat quieter than others and gives time to acclimatise and take in such wonderful camping spots as Kikilelwa and Mawenzi Tarn. Using a different route down Kili allowed us to experience all the different vegetation zones the mountain has to offer. The food on the mountain was incredible. I did not expect to be served french fries at 4700m altitude. Omelettes, french toast, porridge, pancakes, fresh fruit, salad, spaghetti, ginger tea are just some of the delights and it never seemed to run out. Safety was also very good. The guides constantly checked that all was OK and knew exactly what to do as soon as anything was out of line. And the smiles!

KILIMANJARO & SAFARI

The experience of climbing Kilimanjaro and going on safari was fanastic. I could not fault the African Walking Company who coordinated our climb. However he service from exodus themselves was disappointing. before the trip emails seemed to be sent at random either to myself or my father who i was travelling with, we each missed out on some key information. We were met by one exodus rep a tanzania airport, another took us on trek and a third collected us, with noone seeming to have overall responsibility or interest in the group. when 7/15 people were without baggage the night before the trek the rep was utterly disinterested, and had no clear contingency plan to reassure us as to how we would manage if it didnt appear.Catering especially on trek was great, accomodation was very good other than safari camp

KILIMANJARO & SAFARI

Wow, what a trip! From start to finish this was really well organised. I loved that Exodus advised who their most recent staff member was who did this trip, a few weeks before we departed. Marta was AMAZING and answered so many of my last minute questions which was really useful. The trip itself was SUCH an achievement. Everyone on our group made the summit which was incredible. I found the hike to base camp ok, so long as I took it slow, but you have to be REALLY motivated and want to make the summit when doing the final ascent. Simply put, it is the toughest thing I've ever experienced mentally, emotionally and physically. In saying that, the guides were INCREDIBLE and worth their weight in gold. They looked after us, provided amazing moral support and were also a physical support on my way back down. You always knew you were in safe and experienced hands which is comforting. The safari after the tour was a great way to wind down and also a cathartic way to process the amazing achievement we all had together, and be able to talk it through with people who knew exactly what we all went through. A great bunch of people in our group from age 21 to 62 and we all got along really well.

This trip is jus fantastic. The organisation was faultless and the guides were just exceptional. Climbing Kili can be dangerous, but we were in very safe hands, the guides were friendly and very professional, especially on summit night. This was a spectacular experience.

An excellent trip with well organised and professional staff. A good combination with Kilimanjaro and the chance to relax and recover with the safari afterwards.
