Walking the Picos de Europa

An enjoyable week - recommended

It's almost superfluous to repeat what everyone else says - that the hotel is relaxed, informal and friendly and the food is excellent. The walking programme is fine-tuned by the leader on a daily basis to take account of the weather and the abilities of the party.

Fantastic trip

This has to be the best Exodus holiday I have been on.The Picos de Europa are a very beautiful mountain range and the walks we did were varied and interesting with spectacular scenery .A highlight of the trip was walking the stunning Cares gorge. Our leader Alvaro was brilliant .He carefully explained the walks we were doing and while we were walking he looked after everyone in the party often running backwards and forwards from the front to the back of the group . The hotel was great .The hosts Jim and Pilar were very friendly and obliging .My room was comfortable and had a nice modern bathroom .Wifi was free in all areas and was fast and reliable .Best of all was the hotel food .Great menu choices, beautiful presentation and consistently delicious .

Our trip to the Picos was nothing short of sensational. I had no idea such breathtaking scenery was available in Northern Spain. Every walk was different and inspirational.

An excellent weeks walking in the Picos. The scenery is stunning, and the walks are long/hard enough to make you feel that you have done something, but by no means heroic. The hotel (HotelTorrecerrado) is a small family run hotel - you will get a warm friendly welcome from Jim and Pilar, and the food - particularly the dinners - is definitely 5 star ! If you are luccky, Jim will regale you with Amazing Tales in the bar after dinner !

An excellent week's walking. Jim and Pilar and the staff at the hotel were welcoming in a relaxed and sociable style and the food was outstanding. Alvaro the guide was lively and informative and passionate about his local area. The Picos offers wonderful scenery and we were lucky to see Griffin Vultures close up as well as chamoix, red squirrel and salamander.

Walking the Picos de Europa

Picos de Europa, 3 - 10 October 2015 (grade 5)

Our first visit to this area; wonderful varied walks ending in two fairly hard days which very well worth the effort. Limestone peaks, lush meadows, autumn colours in all the different trees and all this mostly to ourselves. First two days misty, warm and windy so programme adjusted to suit that, otherwise sunny and warm but cool at night.

The picos de Europa are really beautiful. We had a fabulous week of weather at the end of September and got to enjoy them at their best! The scenery was magical โ€“ I kept thinking I must be on a Hollywood set, it just seemed surreal! We saw lots of animals โ€“ many birds of prey; chamois; a wallcreeper; lizards; goats; rats! Some people saw a salamander one day although sadly I missed that! Each walk was in a different place โ€“ we did one in each of the central, eastern and western massifs as well as the cares gorge and Juan Robre. Our guide for the week, Alvaro, was excellent. The hotel was very relaxed and it was handy to be in a little village.
