Highlights of Albania

4
Albania is a country with a fascinating and very particular history- it has many historical sites going back to Greek and Roman times and examples of even earlier civilisations too. It was ancient Illyria, which I had heard of but never really knew of previously. This holiday gives a whistle stop tour of most of the main cities and towns, mountain and coastal of Albania and with it you get a clear sense of the country's recent isolation and how it is now making great efforts, with economic constraints to catch up and become part of Europe and the Balkan region. Their particular brand of communism under Enver Hoxha has left its mark but there are so many positives, not least the friendly people and the fact that it has escaped the worst excesses of consumer culture and retained so much tradition and strong sense of family and community.

A whistle-stop tour of a fascinating and beautiful country, visiting historical sites, mountain villages, beach resorts and World Heritage Sites. Some journeys are long, but taken leisurely, with (for Exodus) latish starts (9.00 - 9.30) and breaks for coffee.

Hightlights of Albania

This was our first Exodus holiday and we were very impressed and thought it very good value for money. Our accommodation was excellent throughout although it seems that all shower heads in Albania have a mind of their own. Food good and the wine plentiful. Would have a appreciated one two night stopover during the travelling.

Exodus Response

We would like to thank Alan for reviewing his holiday; we are so pleased that overall he enjoyed his first Exodus tour. We have taken Alan’s feedback on board regarding the vehicle; a larger bus cannot be used as some of the roads travelled during the tour would not be suitable for a larger vehicle, but going forward additional vehicles will be used for a group of this size. We are confident that this will help makes the journeys more comfortable. We have passed Alan’s concerns regarding his flights on to his travel agent who booked these for him.

A tour of southern Albania, getting a really good feel for the history of the country through seeing a wide range of archaeological sites, churches/mosques and ethnic houses. Wonderful mountain and coastal scenery. Good standard of accommodation and really good food. Everyone was really welcoming.

Interesting

This trip is great to get a feel for Albania. A different hotel every night can be a bit draining, but completely worth it to see as much of Albania in the time allowed. There are some longer drives, but they are broken up with plenty of stops for photos and food breaks. The pace is definitely relaxed. I never felt rushed. The scenery is great from stunning mountains to quaint cobbled streets and pretty town. The people are warm and want to engage with you in hand gestures and smiles. the food is wonderful, and there is a lot of eating to be done on this trip. I would say book this trip if you want to experience an under travelled part of Europe... go before everyone else discovers how wonderful it is!

Albania - Greece without all those pesky tourists

5
Ten days in Albania stopping at a different place every night, whats not to love. Mountains, lakes and seaside all stunning and relatively unspoilt, and navigated brilliantly by our driver. History, culture and people all very interseting and expertly explained by our great guide Erion, for whom nothing was too much trouble and he had an answer for all our questions.
