Amritsar to Leh (Beauty of Ladakh)

All that I wanted in a trip and more - contrasting landscapes and the sheer range of the Himalayas - seeing it with your eyes will do it justice (photos are not the same!!). The warmth of the Indian people is amazing (and I am Indian). INDIAN MASALA TEA - best in the world!!

A HIMALAYAN JOURNEY - AMRITSAR TO LEH

The first half of the trip is very busy with lots of travelling and giant passes to cross, the second half is much more sedate and more cultural. A well-balanced trip BUT not really sufficient time to acclimatise before hitting the really high altitudes. Would be better/easier/safer if there were an extra couple of days in the Kulu valley perhaps. Overall a great trip.

A HIMALAYAN JOURNEY - AMRITSAR TO LEH

This was my seventh Exodus holiday and I enjoyed the experience tremendously. I loved the journey through the Himalayas, I have a passion for mountains, rock formations and geological patterns. The mountain drive was spectacular and the drivers are to be congratulated for their skillful manouevering of the cars.

A HIMALAYAN JOURNEY - AMRITSAR TO LEH

A fascinating trip across the Himalayas to Ladakh by road.  An opportunity to see fantastic high altitude scenery of almost brutal beauty.  Frequently traversing unsurfaced roads with sheer drops adds to the excitement.  In Ladakh we were rewarded with visits to monasteries and stunning views.

A HIMALAYAN JOURNEY - AMRITSAR TO LEH

This is a great road journey, taking in a variety of stunning landscapes. You get to experience three different cultures (Indian, Tibetan, ladakhi) in one trip and you are exposed to both Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

A HIMALAYAN JOURNEY - AMRITSAR TO LEH

Was an amazing trip; Amritsar to Manali was okay but a bit too touristy for my liking. The Rohtang pass was an incredible spectacle - for all the wrong, albeit amusing, reasons. However once you cross over into Laddakh it is absolutely breathtaking! The views, the people (both locals and tourists or lack thereof), the contrasting landscapes, everything

A HIMALAYAN JOURNEY - AMRITSAR TO LEH

I had always wanted to see the Himalaya and I was rewarded by the spectacular landscapes we encountered on our way to different passes. notably the Khardung pass at 5602m and the Tagland La pass at 5328m.  The roads were so narrow and incredibly precarious that it could be quite thrilling and scary in turn when we drove close to the edge.  I was fascinated by the Tibetan culture and was pleased to be able to visit some of their impressive monasteries and get to talk to some Tibetans.  I loved to explore their bazaars.

LEH TO AMRITSAR

Great  mountain scenery, interesting Buddist culture, very different to other parts of India.  If you have enjoyed Tibet, you will like Ladakh. Worth putting up with the humidity, heat and crowds to see the Golden Temple

LEH TO AMRITSAR

Ladakh is an amazing area! I could have spent the entire holiday visiting Buddhist monasteries! The only downside to the holiday was the unseasonal weather - we could have done without the blizzards, landslides and heavy rain!!
