Why Choose an Exodus Walk or Trek

Trekking staff beneath Ama Dablam, KhumbuThe walking & trekking specialist…

For more than 30 years, our adventurous spirit has kept us on the look-out for fresh itineraries. We offer all the 'classic' routes, from the Amalfi Coast to Everest Base Camp, whilst also venturing to regions and paths rarely trodden. Whether you’re after a centre-based walking holiday staying in great hotels, or want to test yourself on a 7,000m peak, we have a trip to suit you.

Our dedication to you…

Exodus is all about giving you the best experience, not the cheapest price. We ensure our overseas staff and partners are paid fairly and our long-term commitment to them helps build the passion and in-depth knowledge needed to give you the travel experience you want. We don’t use the cheapest accommodation but that which provides the best value, be it a family-run hostel or a 4-star hotel. All of our trips have been designed with your safety foremost in mind, so you can relax and enjoy the experience.

Our commitment to the places we visit…

We do make a difference – many companies claim to be responsible but at Exodus we believe in action. We have many successful projects around the world that help house the homeless, educate the poor, protect the environment and wildlife, and help reduce carbon emissions. All are designed to ensure that tourism is a force for good! Check out full details about our Responsible Tourism policy here on our website.

Leaders and clients approaching Toubkal summitOur leaders…

It is no exaggeration to say that our tour leaders can make a world of difference to the enjoyment of your holiday – so we choose them carefully. The result is that, every year the vast majority of our clients state that their leader exceeded their expectations. Where possible, we train and employ local leaders because they can provide invaluable insights that enrich the trip. What’s more, this investment in local staff really benefits both the individuals and their community.

Our staff...

Many of our office staff are former walking & trekking leaders and many others have spent time amongst the mountains working in other roles. We have trekked in regions as diverse as Pakistan, New Zealand, Japan and Antarctica. Between us, the Exodus team has accumulated more than a hundred ascents of Kilimanjaro, spent a century in the Alps and even summitted Everest twice. We are the walking and trekking experts.

Paul Bloomfield, Wanderlust writer, who climbed Mount Kenya with Exodus in 2008 shares his experience...

Paul Bloomfield, Wanderlust writerCurious fact: the rock hyrax, that nosy little furball that sniffs hungrily around the kitchens of mountain huts, has toenails instead of claws. Three months ago I didn't know that. I didn't even know I wanted to know it - but after just an hour hiking up the slopes of Mount Kenya, I found myself like that greedy hyrax, snaffling up titbits of knowledge about Kenyan wildlife, flora, culture and history being liberally dispensed by my Exodus guide, Francis.

The five-day climb was about so much more than trekking along verdant glacial valleys below fang-like pinnacles, or gasping - literally, at just shy of 5,000m - as dawn's glow lit the 360° vistas from Point Lenana. It was Kenya condensed, with little bursts of countless flavours: a morsel of birdwatching, a mouthful of Maasai lore, botany for breakfast. It left me hungry for more - and that's the sign of the best treks; the walking is almost incidental, an access route to the experiences you came to discover.
