Winter Activity Holidays in Russia

Russia is known as a country of snow and ice thanks to 70 per cent of the territory being constantly covered by the beautiful white stuff. The best way to explore this terrain is on snowshoes, which allows us to discover Russia's breathtaking landscapes of pine forests and high rocky ridges. No trip to Russia is complete without visiting St Petersburg, where the Hermitage, Peter and Paul Fortress and the River Neva combine to evoke a past of unparalleled glory.

Temperatures & daylight hours

This part of Russia we visit during winter is in northern Europe and has a continental climate, with extreme lows in the winter. Snow can be expected from November through to April with temperatures between +3 and –7 in Nov, Dec, March and April dropping to between –10 and –25 in Jan and Feb. On occasion, temperatures have dropped to as far as -30. Russia is magical in winter and if you take good quality clothing for when you are out and about you will be fine. The hotels and restaurants are generally well heated and a sauna is a great way to relax at the end of a day snowshoeing.
