Winter Activity Holidays in Czech Republic

Another of Europe’s rising winter stars, the Czech Republic also has a long history of winter sports excellence, going back through its years as part of Czechoslovakia. All the main staples of winter sports are here, with many mountain resorts having a history of sports such as dogsledding and cross-country skiing stretching back 100 years.

The winters are suitably cold, with temperatures ranging from -5 to -10, although often lower at higher altitudes, with snow lying until late March in many places.

The main peaks are the Krkonose Mountains which lie to the north of the country on the border with Poland, a few hours’ drive from the capital, Prague. Though not high by western European standards, they offer good infrastructure, some fantastic terrain and hearty mountain cuisine, not to mention a good line in plum brandy!

More and more winter sports fans are waking up to the possibilities, pedigree and value available in this diverse country.
